Classic Yacht Racing Rules

There is an extensive circuit for classic yacht racing in Europe with most of the regattas held in ports on the Mediterranean coast. Yachts of all sizes are rated according to the Rules for the Rating and Racing of Vintage and Classic Yachts 2010-2013 – Published by Comité International de la Méditerranée.

The CIM uses a complicated formula based on hull dimensions, hull shape and sail area. In addition to rating calculations accounting for these items, the formula also takes into account items such as: age of the vessel, extent of restorations, configuration of rudder, type of rig, shape of sails and material of sails.
