Racing Program

Lady Van is a racing sailboat. She was commissioned and built specifically to beat the famous Sir Tom from Seattle for the Pacific Northwest version of the Lipton Cup.

She had a long, highly successful career in all kinds of racing, from the top levels of international competition to local club races.

The purchase and restoration of Lady Van coincided with the excitement in the Pacific Northwest around the revival of the long dormant Alexandra Cup and a renewed interest in the classic R boats.

The core of the Society plans are to continue Lady Van’s long tradition of racing.

Rather than keep her as a museum piece, Lady Van will represent the Society and the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club in competitions including local races with public interest, classic yacht regattas, major Cup challenges, and international competitions. While the initial focus will be on defense of the Alexandra Cup, stay tuned for information on other competitions.
